Drivers 'ignoring' one-way system
Claims have been made drivers are ignoring Carterton Railway Station's one-way system in their haste to exit the carpark.
A regular train passenger who didn't want his name published told the Times-Age he feared someone was going to be run over because commuters coming off early evening trains were scrambling to beat each other out of the carpark.
"They are ignoring the one-way system and are taking off out of the entry-only entranceways."
He said the system was relatively new and some drivers might genuinely not have caught up with the rules but daily commuters would have no excuse.

Every evening Carterton train station could be mistaken for a dodgems car race track, just like those found at amusement fairs.
It is very risky to cross the road if your vehicle is parked in the designated parking on the other side of the street.
Drivers are very impatient and will try to pass on the inside of the left land if a car is backing out to get into that lane.
There is a madness that comes over them and makes them think they will get home faster if they all rush down the street like a bull at a gate. And they are driving out of the 'entry' gate and disrupting the flow of one way system in order to gain a few seconds.
Strangely most of these cars would visit the supermarket two blocks away and drivers are quite sedate and orderly in that car park.
It would therefore appear to be a very bad habit peculiar to the station that has developed and needs to be tackled, as it is only a matter of time before someone is injured or vehicles are involved in an accident.
